These are going to China.
They are eucalyptus logs, which are being harvested along the Hamakua Coast and marshalled at Kawaihae, ready for shipment to China.
Is China taking all the eucalyptus?

It was in the herald last month. Trade Winds owns the eucalyptus farm, and selling some to China, won’t disclose how much, but also providing the biofuel for the Pepeekeo biofuel plant and they say they have more than enough when that comes on line in a year and a half.

Hamakua eucalyptus trees to be shipped to Asia
I had not seen that. Makes perfect sense.
I was a panelist at the Hawaii State Association of Counties where HELCO president Jay Ignacio told the audience that HELCO planned to burn bio mass at its Puna plant. Lots of folks interested in trees.
HELCO is saying they will take diesel generator plants off-line as alternative energy becomes available. They have said they are close to taking one of their BI plants off-line and it must be this Puna plant. Converting it to a bio mass plant would be a win-win. It seems like a great opportunity for the county to take those geothermal relocation properties and make them eucalyptus farms for sale of eucalyptus bio mass to HELCO, rather than just leaving the properties vacant.
